9 Strategies for Healthier Lifestyle

1)Focus on a healthy lifestyle, not on a diet. "Diets" don't work. The immediate effects you sometimes see from fad diets are temporary and often result in eventual weight gain. What DOES work over time is learning how to make healthy choices.

2)Make a commitment to change. If you are not ready to change, success in this or any program will be difficult. To lose weight and keep it off, you must commit yourself to a changed lifestyle. It's the most important step.

3)Understand what needs to be changed. Monitor yourself. Notice when, where and what you're eating, and be aware of your activity level. The more you understand your habits, the more you can change them.

4)Identify and break unhealthy habits. People often eat without thinking. So identify circumstances that give you difficulties and focus your efforts especially upon these situations.

5)Deal with emotional issues. Look at those times when you use food to cope with stress, anxiety or boredom.Learn to identify the source of your feelings and address them. You'll see that food is not the solution once you learn to deal with yourself honestly.

6)Set realistic goals. Small steps win the race. Instead of grandiose plans to lose a lot of weight quickly that will probably fail, take on small tasks at which you can succeed and feel good about.

7)Plan and organize. Preparation is the key to your success. Without easy access to nutritious foods people tend to eat whatever is on hand.

8)Increase physical activity. Do something simple to change your daily routine. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Walk whenever you can. Find an activity you enjoy, like swimming or biking. Pair up with an exercise buddy.

9)Maintain your new lifestyle. You have the power to make permanent changes in your habits and your health. Avoid the unhealthy cycle of weight loss and gain. Remember that the changes you make today are for your long-term benefit
